This weekend was an absolute success, more than I expected it to be. We drove up on Friday and setup camp, had a great camp fire. Woke up expecting rain and goo but the sky was a beautiful blue. We had some breakfast, cleaned up and proceeded to have some real fun. We started the morning with a camp tour for the younger scouts. We showed them were King Phillip is and what it looked like, explained why we love it so, we showed them the rifle range, mess hall, Nature Den, showers, waterfront, scout craft, handicraft, brown sea, OA field, and the admin building. Then proceeded to play sports, the sports played were: Bocce, Basketball, Football, Frisbee, Fishing, Manhunt, and some good ole fashioned Horseshoes. After lunch we got a spot of rain, but only about 10 minutes worth. The skies cleared and Troop 14 was back at it again, playing the sports that we love so much. Bob, John, and John joined us at around 1pm. John Jr brought up a friend with him. They put together an emergency shelter for their nights sleep. With our new additions we continued to enjoy the day and play sports. At dinner time the troop broke down to cook their respective meals: Panthers ate Shish-kabobs, Cobras/Eagles had Baked Haddock, and the adults had BBQ chicken. At the evenings campfire – we had our traditional Troop 14 fire and enjoyed some great fellowship around the fire. As Scoutmaster I was very please to see that all the scouts were working together in playing, cooking, and cleaning(actually everything they did was a team effort).

On Sunday morning we woke to yet another beautiful day. The Troop had breakfast and broke camp. Everybody working together made for a quick tear down and pack into our newly painted trailer(man that trailer looks awesome). One last stop at Mr. Clevis and homeward bound we were. At the scout post we arrived, unloaded the troop equipment and personal gear. Again, I was extremely impressed by the teamwork displayed.

Overall – this trip was just like I said it would be and more, the best trip of the year. We had lots and lots of fun, not a hint of negative was displayed during the entire trip. The boys even caught 8 fish.

Hello Troop 14 warriors. I wanted to send out an email to all the scouts and parents of Troop 14 that went to this past weekends trip.

First I would like to address the scouts, because without them, Troop 14 wouldn’t exist. You guys are an awesome group. You need to know that. All of you did a great job. For the new scouts, your teamwork was very nice to see. You all had a smile on the entire week. Any bumps in the road were dealt with swiftly and without resistance. You are true Troop 14 scouts. As for the older scouts, I know you had a different role than your used to when camping but you met that challenge with patience and understanding (and a little rope). Thank you it did not go unnoticed.

New parents and new leaders: Hope we didn’t scare you off! LOL I hope you were as proud of your son as much as I was. They really showed to me, you, the older boys, other leaders, and most importantly – themselves how much they can do. They know now the difference between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and by the look in their eyes, they like it. For the new leaders, I hope you had fun and at the same time learned a bit as well. It’s not all work work work. And lastly the parents that attended because they just love the outdoors: Bill, Lester, Dawn, Steph, Kelly – Thank you for coming and helping out. Your presence was greatly appreciated.
